From Grief to Growth
Joopa’s roots run deep in the lush rainforests of Río Dulce, Izabal, Guatemala—a place rich with history and heartbreak.
In 2010, our family returned to a land that had once been vibrant but left abandoned for over 20 years after the tragic murder of our father there. With hope and resilience, we transformed what was once cattle grassland into a thriving cacao farm, choosing a crop in harmony with the forest and deeply tied to Guatemala’s cultural legacy.
This farm, Joopa Kacaou, is more than a business—it’s a tribute to our ancestors. In fact, our great-grandfather founded Guatemala’s first chocolate factory in the 1940s. By reviving cacao on our land, we continue that legacy with deep love and intention.
